*Religion – Focus is on creationand works towards Christ’s death and resurrection.Children begin the process of becoming Christ’s disciples.Memory is a regular part of the Religion curriculum.
*Language Arts – Sing, Spell, Read, and Write is used as our reading/phonics text.Children learn each letter and sound through songs and jingles.Once letters and sounds are learned children begin reading.As part of this program children also practice writing, sequencing and listening.
*Math – Math Their Way focuses on patterning, number concepts, recognition, addition, subtraction, money and time and utilizes many “hands–on” manipulatives.
*Your child will spend the majority of their time on these subjects, which are considered the core curriculum of Kindergarten.
The following subjects are also covered throughout the year to enhance the child’s understanding of the world around them and prepare them for first grade.
Science is taught from aChristian perspective and includes topics on animals, plants, sound, heat, light, movement, Earth, weather and the body.
Children explore the world around them and how we live and work together during Social Studies.
Creating Art using various media and methods is taught through formal lessons.Cross-curriculum projects are also included.
Children develop Computer skills as they engage in age appropriate educational games in the classroom and computer lab.
Library - Children visit the school library to check out books of interest. Teacher led and individual reading time is included.
Center Time – Children learn through play and develop decision-making skills as they select centers of interest.As the year progresses Skill Time is introduced with the children working in small groups that focus on different lessons.
Field Trips – Coordinated with the curriculum, these outings offer additional learning experiences.
Physical Education – Children learn about exercise through activities such as skipping, hopping, and marching.Some basic fundamentals of sports such as dribbling and stretching are also included.They are also introduced to the Presidential Fitness Award basics.
