From the Principal
Don’t forget that the Scholastic Book Fair will be at FLS next week. Students and their families will have the opportunity to purchase books this week. Next week we will be also hosting Literature Night. Dinner on this night will be from 5-6 p.m. Literature Night activities will conclude at 8 p.m. We hope to see everyone there.
Chapel leaders for the month of November are: Pastor Stuckwisch from First Lutheran Church, Pastor Zirbel from Grace Lutheran Church in Greenwood, Pastor Truede from Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Smith, and Mrs. Nieting.
It looks like it will be another beautiful weekend. I hope that everyone has the opportunity to get outside and enjoy it.
Helping Your Child Succeed in School – Math
One question teachers often get from their students is why they have to learn something. One of the subjects that this is most prevalent in is math. Math skills are important to a child's success – both at school and in everyday life. Understanding math also builds confidence and opens the door to a range of career options.
In our everyday lives, understanding math enables us to: manage time and money, and handle everyday situations that involve numbers (for example, calculate how much time we need to get to work, how much food we need in order to feed our families, and how much money that food will cost); understand patterns in the world around us and make predictions based on patterns (for example, predict traffic patterns to decide on the best time to travel); solve problems and make sound decisions; explain how we solved a problem and why we made a particular decision; use technology (for example, calculators and computers) to help solve problems.
Parents you can help your children with math at home everyday. Children learn math best through activities that encourage them to: explore; think about what they are exploring; solve problems using information they have gathered themselves; and explain how they reached their solutions.
Children learn easily when they can connect math concepts and procedures to their own experience. By using common household objects (such as measuring cups and spoons in the kitchen) and observing everyday events (such as weather patterns over the course of a week), they can "see" the ideas that are being taught.
An important part of learning math is learning how to solve problems. Children are encouraged to use trial and error to develop their ability to reason and to learn how to go about problem solving. They learn that there may be more than one way to solve a problem and more than one answer. They also learn to express themselves clearly as they explain their solutions.
SPIRIT SHIRT HOODIES - $8 EACH
We have Spirit Shirt hoodies that have the “Get In Stride Panther Pride” design on the front instead of the back available for purchase from the school office at a discounted price of $8.00 each. The printing company made a mistake by printing the design on the front of the hoodie instead of the back.
These hoodies may be worn on Spirit Shirt days and the blue hoodie may be worn any day of the week.
These hoodies will be sold on a first come first serve basis while supplies last.
CHAPEL
Chapel offerings for November will be going to SIM (Serving in Mission) for Ben Rogers, a former student. Ben is going to Ethiopia to work in a youth center which serves 700 youth daily. They learn English, do school work, and have Bible studies in homes.
We will also be collecting canned goods for the Clearinghouse. Canned goods for the Clearing House will be collected everyday through November 24. The class bringing in the most items of food will receive a popcorn party from the Student Council.

LOST FLUTE
I have mislaid my flute and would like to ask everyone to help me find it. The last time I played it was last Wednesday in chapel, but I didn’t start missing it until Sunday. It is a Yamaha open hole, Cfoot with a black canvas case. My permanent identification numbers are scribed into the surface. If anyone has any info, PLEASE let me know.
