Third Grade May Newsletter

Wow! I can’t believe this is our last classroom newsletter. This month will go very quickly and we have a lot to accomplish. Our school will be having some special activities planned and our classroom as well. Please keep a copy of the Friday note and a calendar handy. I hope you all have a wonderful summer vacation and hope to see you in the fall!

Reading/Language Arts: We have completed our reading textbook and workbook this month. I have chosen the novel “Whipping Boy” as our next novel study. It is a short read with a lot of history and vocabulary. We will be doing several writing and craft projects as we read it. While preparing for the “Cat’s Paw” writing booklet for our school we will be typing and editing stories in the computer lab. Our classroom will be transformed into an “Ocean” as we learn to write research paper and read about ocean animals.

Math: Along with daily review of prior skills, we’ll be learning to divide with remainders. We’ll continue to review multiplication of larger numbers and with decimals.

Social Studies: We are finishing our unit on the Civil War. It has been very interesting to the class. We will have a quiz this week so watch for details. Our year will end with learning about “Arkansas Government” and Arkansas’ role in the U.S. in the future.

Religion: We are reading about the Ascension of Christ and the Pentecost. We will end the year reading and learning about the early church and our role as Christians and missionaries. Our chapel service is this Wednesday the 5th. Please come join us for worship.

Science: We will be making an ocean soda bottle diorama in class as we research ocean animals. Our next science chapter is on “Patterns in the Sky” and the “Solar System.”

Just a Note:

  1. Fun and Field Day is this Friday! We are in need of parent drivers. We will be going bowling in the morning and skating in the afternoon. We will have a pizza lunch scheduled at school. I believe PTL will send out the permission slips out today. Please get them back as soon as possible.
  2. The spring concert is May 14th at 6:30.
  3. Our last day of school will be June 1st from 8:00 – 9:00. Please consider coming to attend our closing chapel and awards ceremony.
  4. We are trying to earn a “Picnic Day” in which we’ll eat lunch outside. We only have a few spaces left to color to earn it so watch for updates!
  5. We are in need of some supplies for our ocean unit. Please see the list below. We need them as soon as possible.
  6. Happy Birthday Emily and Maddie God’s blessings to you!
